Things to do in the Maldives

Plan snorkelling, diving, boat trips and activities for families and non-swimmers from the island where you stay.

Start with your resort's activity desk. A tour departing from Malé or Maafushi may not collect guests from a private resort, so confirm pickup and return transport before booking.

Can you snorkel from the beach?

A house reef is not always accessible from the beach. Kandima offers scheduled unguided house-reef trips, with lagoon snorkelling and other excursions listed separately. Confirm the entry point, guide arrangements and local conditions.

Diving: choose the site and operator together

Kandima's Aquaholics offers diving in Dhaalu Atoll. Tell the dive centre your certification and recent experience, then confirm the site's suitability, health screening, equipment and timing before your onward flight.

What can non-swimmers do?

Kandima has Kula Art Studio; the Ritz-Carlton lists cultural workshops at Fari Marina Village. Dining and spa treatments offer other ways to spend the day without entering the sea.

For boat trips, discuss boarding and safety arrangements with the operator. A life jacket alone does not make an in-water activity suitable for a non-swimmer.

How should families choose activities?

Check age and height limits for each activity, even if your child meets the room's occupancy rules. Ritz Kids caters to ages 4 to 12, with babysitting available on request for a fee. Confirm hours and supervision.

What can you do when it rains?

Choose an indoor alternative on your island, such as an art session, workshop or spa treatment. Check the schedule and whether a cancelled excursion qualifies for a refund, credit or rescheduling.

Understand the seasons before choosing dates

What should an activity quote include?

Get a total for your whole party, including transport, equipment, guides, meals, taxes and access fees. Check whether the price is per person or per boat, and whether your package includes the activity or only a discount.

Choose a resort around your priorities

Find a trip that starts on your island.

Check the pickup island before paying. A trip leaving Malé or Maafushi may not collect guests from a private resort. Confirm return transport, weather cancellations and any separate island-access fees with the operator.
